Harassment

Harassment on the grounds of sex, marital status, gender reassignment, race, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation and age, along with sexual harassment, is explicitly prohibited in employment and vocational training. It is defined as any unwanted conduct on the grounds of race, age, etc that has the purpose or effect of:

  • violating the dignity of an individual
  • creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive atmosphere for an individual

It is important to note that, while sexual harassment is commonly committed by a man against a woman, it can also be committed by a woman against a man, by a man against another man or by a woman against another woman.

Legislation is in the process of being introduced which aims to extend and consolidate the law relating to discrimination and harassment.
